Q&A with Andrew Holsen, hand maker

Andrew is a jewellery hand maker from California. His passion for the craft times back to his early days in her grandmother’s bedroom. He used to dress up with big, heavy earrings and pretend to be a grown up.

How is your process of creation?

I usually start with the moodboarding and conceptualisation of a new collection. Usually that begins way earlier when I start taking photographs and sketching silly ideas for shapes.

What inspires you?

The Earth is my biggest inspiration and influence. I like to visit crystal stores, vintage bazars and be inspired with the beauty of raw stones.

Writing is my passion, and I love sharing my knowledge and expertise. After receiving a BA in English at Wilmington College of Ohio, I worked for several non-profits where I wrote press releases, organizational histories and grant proposals. Next, I went to Wright State University for a Master’s degree in writing and literature. For the next 20 years, I worked in marketing writing press releases, articles, internal corporate communications and on-air and print advertisement. I also followed my passion as an adjunct professor of writing and literature. In 2008, I moved to a remote mountain town in North Carolina with my husband and two dogs. It was there, I created Word Branch Media (formerly CRT Writing) and began my journey as a freelance writer and editor. In addition to working for a major publishing company, I also started my own press: Word Branch Publishing. It is this experience that I offer to you to aid in your own writing projects. I understand the needs of both businesses and the creative industries, and I will work with you to create a polished and professional piece.
